Day By Day - 2 Corinthians 7
by Lyn Hinton on July 14th, 2020
- By Jacob Muthsam - - Personal Thoughts:
Chapter 7 starts with therefore, and as we have heard millions of times when we read a, 'therefore', we must ask what is it there for? Chapter 7 leads on from Chapter 6 and particularly in the second half.
Paul is basically saying in this passage, to separate from worldly influences so that we can live a close life with God. Read More
Day By Day - 1 Corinthians 16
by Lyn Hinton on July 5th, 2020
- By Leanne Rich - Opening Thoughts:
In this chapter, Paul gives some advice about serving and those in service.
Firstly, he gives advice about how the church could contribute and bless others: to manage collections for the needy persecuted Christians in Jerusalem. The church in Corinth seemed to have more resources than other churches and were encouraged to share their material resources.
Secondly he mentions certain people by name. It is worth looking at those he mentioned. Read More
Day By Day - 1 Corinthians 15

- By John Horsburgh - Opening thoughts:
This brings to mind a topic that is largely misunderstood, a branch of theology known as apologetics. It is not as it sounds, apologising for theology but is an intellectual defence of the faith. Paul’s whole life bears absolute testimony to the reality of his faith in the risen Lord and in this chapter, he explains the gospel once again and also defends the gospel against some false teaching that had begun to raise its head in the church at Corinth. Opening Thought:
Pursue and desire - both words are verbs. A verb is an action word, my favourite. Paul‘s coaching here is a call to action: love’s pursuit is a chase. Love is the exquisite prize we run for. We hunt it down, capture it, engage in it and maintain every aspect of our Christian walk in it. Here is the reason for Paul’s coaching on love, our spiritual gifts are dependent upon it. Read More
Day By Day - 1 Corinthians 13
by Lyn Hinton on June 30th, 2020
- By Darryl Flaherty - Introduction:
1 Corinthians 13 is often called the love chapter. Verses 4 to 7 are without a doubt one of the most popular portions of scripture in the Bible. It’s often read at weddings, as the relatively short section of scripture, written by the Apostle Paul, perfectly summarises the power, characteristics and importance of love. Read More
Day By Day - 1 Corinthians 12
by Lyn Hinton on June 29th, 2020
- By Tom Mitchell - - Personal Thoughts:
Chapter 12 begins with Paul expressing his desire for the church at Corinth not to be ignorant about his teachings of the Spiritual gifts. He goes on to describe the different types of gifts from the Holy Spirit. Paul continues with Read More
Day By Day - 1 Corinthians 11
by Lyn Hinton on June 28th, 2020
- By John Horsburgh - Opening Thoughts:
This chapter starts off with some of my favourite words, albeit some very challenging ones. “Be followers of me – even as I am a follower of Christ”. This precedes some discussion about gender and a discourse on communion, including a chastisement for the manner in which some were abusing what should be a great expression of love.

Day By Day 1 Corinthians 10
by Lyn Hinton on June 25th, 2020
- By Paul Rich - - Opening thoughts:
How do you cope with criticism? If you're anything like me, you can take it in small doses, and only from certain people. After all, I'm the King’s kid! So what could you possibly find in me to criticise?
1. Right path, wrong heart Read More
Day By Day - 1 Corinthians 9
by Lyn Hinton on June 24th, 2020
- By David Passmore - Personal Thoughts:
I can hear Paul’s cry as he was trying to explain in love and by example his actions. Paul, as their Apostle, could have been hard on them, but he let go of the privileges that he had and reminded them (verse 2) that they were the “seal” of his Apostleship into which he was appointed and anointed by Jesus Himself (Acts 9:1-19 verses 15-19 in particular). Day By Day - 1 Corinthians 8

- By Leanne Rich -
In the chapter before and after Chapter 8, Paul is setting forth the rights and responsibilities that we have as Christians.
In our current society we often see people demanding their rights. Sometimes rights and responsibilities clash: the right to freedom of speech and the responsibility to protect each other from COVID-19. Rights need to be balanced with responsibility. Read More
Day By Day - 1 Corinthians 7
by Lyn Hinton on June 22nd, 2020
- By John Horsburgh - Opening Thoughts:
On the surface this chapter is all about marriage. Paul gives some advice that he claims as being from himself and some as from God.
In an age where marriage is increasingly called into question by our society and so many treat marriage with a revolving door concept, how do we read a chapter like this one and keep a loving attitude towards the many who have suffered the loss and heartache of broken relationships? Read More
Day By Day - 1 Corinthians 6
by Lyn Hinton on June 21st, 2020
- By Catherine Mitchell - In this chapter, we read that Paul found the saints fraudulently suing and publicly cheating each other. This serious fault had deteriorated into severe loss and failure for the people and was tarnishing the integrity and reputation of the church of Jesus Christ. The Corinthians were sowing in greed not love, hence, Paul intervened with a strong rebuke; v7 “Now therefore, it is already an utter failure for you that you go to law against one another.” Read More
Day By Day - 1 Corinthians 5
by Lyn Hinton on June 18th, 2020
- By Tom Mitchell - - This chapter covers two major issues, immorality that defiles the church and the judgement of that immorality. So, where do I start with this most challenging chapter of scripture without offending anyone or triggering any past hurts or circumstances that any individual may have been through? Read More
Day By Day - 1 Corinthians 4
by Lyn Hinton on June 17th, 2020
- By Darryl Flaherty - In this chapter, Paul continues the quest to re-establish his authority with the Corinthians as their apostle, and in doing so he opens up a bit about the things he has to suffer in order to serve Christ.
I think that many Pastors or Christian leaders have complained about their hardships and may have complained a lot! In 1 Corinthians 4 we find insights about what apostles and other Christian workers have to suffer. Read More
Day By Day - 1 Corinthians 3
by Lyn Hinton on June 16th, 2020
- By John Horsburgh - As we begin to read through this first letter to the church in Corinth, we find Paul chastising the believers over a few issues and in this chapter it starts with him addressing the problem of division within the fellowship. This is followed by a brief discussion liking the apostles to builders as they teach the body the ways of Christian living. Read More
Day By Day - 1 Corinthians 2
by Lyn Hinton on June 16th, 2020
- By Michael Barton - Talking to the Corinthians must have been hard work for Paul. In may ways they were an out of control church with a lot of ‘worldly issues’ going on. Things such as quarrelling, jealousy, sexual immorality and yelling out in church. They were abusing the Lord’s Supper and a whole lot more. If you look up the definition of immorality, I’m sure you would find a reference to the church in Corinth. It wasn’t not an easy task to try to get them in line, but Paul had great tact. Read More
Day By Day - 1 Corinthians 1
by Lyn Hinton on June 14th, 2020
- By Paul Rich - Who were the Corinthians? It’s generally agreed that the church in Corinth was planted by Paul and was therefore young and, in many ways, immature. The city of Corinth could have been labelled Sin City as many of the issues in the city followed the people into the church. There was disunity, sexual immorality, debauchery, false teachings, spiritual immaturity and jealousy of other’s spiritual gifts. Yet, Paul’s salutation is to acknowledge the good he could see, their speech and their knowledge. Read More
