Day By Day Habakkuk 2
By Anne Horsburgh
Chapter 2 begins with Habakkuk on the alert for God’s answer to his second problem; using a wicked nation to punish Judah. Habakkuk is braced for the worst.
God answers Habakkuk and confirms He is aware of the wickedness of the Chaldeans. God knows their sins of greed & aggression, exploitation, extortion, violence, immorality and idolatry. (These are covered in verses 5-20 which includes the “5 Woes”). Unfortunately the nation of Judah is guilty of the same offences and stands under the same judgement.
Verses 2-4 are the key verses in this Chapter. God has a plan, a vision to be completed in His time.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 reminds us that there is a time for everything. We may not understand nor may we even see how it all is put together. Our God asks us to live by faith especially when circumstances appear to contradict what we know of His power and purposes.
In verse 20, God reminds us of His sovereign majesty – “But the Lord is in His holy temple. Let all the earth keep silence before Him.”
Keep remembering – “The just shall live by his faith.” (verse 4)
What can we learn from this Chapter?
1. Be watchful and listen for God to speak.
2. God knows what is going on – He is aware of the good and bad in our world.
3. God is in control.
4. Have faith in God – this is repeated throughout the Bible.
5. A time is coming when the earth will be filled with the glory of the Lord.
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” 2 Cor 5:7
